New York City Health Department Concludes Investigation Into Legionnaires' Disease Cluster

The New York City Health Department has concluded its investigation into the Legionnaires’ disease cluster in Manhattan.

One hundred sixteen cooling towing systems were tested in Lennox Hill and 42 tested positive for Legionella DNA, officials said. Of the 42 tested, 24 tested positive for Legionella bacteria that could cause human disease.

The Health Department ordered those cooling towers to be disinfected, officials said.

One person died, and at least six others were hospitalized after contracting the disease. The person who died was in their 90s and had underlying health problems.
