More Than 30 Percent of Express Buses Run Behind Schedule: Study

Hopping onto one of the city’s express buses may actually set you behind schedule, says a new study.

More than 30 percent of MTA express buses missed their scheduled departure times, according to an audit released by the New York City comptroller’s office.

The audit, which examined bus timelines, wheelchair functionality and customer satisfaction, found that commuters waited for buses anywhere between 6 to 28 minutes after the scheduled departure time.

Buses in Brooklyn and Staten Island ranked lowest in performance, according to the audit, which found that nearly 40 percent of complaints came from those boroughs. The worst offenders are Staten Island’s X1 and X17 buses, and Brooklyn’s BM1, X27 and X28 buses.

The MTA says it is working to correct issues brought to their attention by the study.

“Our goal with ALL of our buses is to achieve faster travel times, more evenly spaced arrivals, and overall better service for our customers,” said the agency in a statement.
