NYC Charity Asking for More Holiday Coat Donations

New Yorkers in urgent need of more than 100,000 coats this holiday season have so far gotten donations of only 18,000.

But New York Cares says there are still two weeks left in the charity's 26th annual coat drive.

The donated clothing goes to homeless and low-income families, seniors on fixed incomes and others asking for help keeping warm in winter.

Through December 31st, new or gently used coats may be deposited at hundreds of locations in the city's five boroughs. They include all NYPD police precincts, Bryant Park, the New York Cares warehouse and other sites.

Last year, 80,000 coats were donated during the holidays.

New York Cares has 300 locations across the city where coats may be donated. To see which one is closest to you, click here. Coats are being accepted now through Dec. 31.
