Driver Is Ejected, Car Flies Off Bridge in Belt Parkway Crash: NYPD

A driver was killed early Monday after being ejected from his car in a grisly wreck on a Brooklyn highway that sent his vehicle careening into two guardrails and a pole before it flew off the side of a bridge.

The driver was headed east on the Belt Parkway near Exit 13 by the Mill Basin Bridge when his car hit a railing and spun out of control across three lanes of traffic at about 2 a.m., police say.

The car hit the railing and light pole on the right side of the road, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle, police say. After the man was ejected, the car flipped off the side of the road and plummeted about 10 feet onto the ground below, landing on the shore of Mill Basin, off Jamaica Bay.

Police found the driver, 27, dead along the side of the roadway.

Another car hit the pole that fell when the first car crashed, police say, but the driver of that vehicle wasn't injured.

The Belt Parkway was closed in both directions for about three hours after the crash. All lanes reopened in time for the morning rush, though heavy delays are expected throughout the commute.
