100,000 Sign Up for New York City Bike Share in Less Than a Month: DOT

Officials said the bikes have been ridden more than 1 million miles

More than 100,000 people have signed up to use New York City's new bike share system since it launched a little less than four weeks ago, officials announced Saturday.

The members have taken the bikes for nearly 400,000 trips since the program began May 27, according to the Department of Transportation, and ridden them more than 1 million miles.

The city's statistics suggest that the number of people using the bikes has been increasing at a more rapid pace in the past week. A one-day ridership record of 30,000 rides was set on Friday, which was the second consecutive record day.
