A woman who stabbed her alleged romantic rival to death in 2016 as the victim’s child sat in a stroller nearby was sentenced to prison, authorities announced.

Shenia Williams, 22, of Brownsville, Brooklyn, was sentenced to 18 years in prison and five years post-release supervision Friday after she pleaded guilty in June 2018 to first-degree manslaughter.

According to prosecutors, on Sept. 13, 2016, shortly before 1 a.m., 22-year-old Joanna Beauzier arrived at the home of her ex-boyfriend on Lott Avenue in Brownsville to confront Williams. Beauzier brought her 9-month-old son with her.

The two women allegedly had a physical altercation outside the house and were separated a few times, before Williams pulled put a knife and stabbed Beauzier multiple times, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.

The victim, an employee of the city's Parks Department, according to officials, sustained three stab wounds to her stab wounds. She was subsequently pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.

“The defendant needlessly and senselessly escalated a fight by using a knife with fatal and tragic consequences. She ended a young woman’s life and ruined her own future because of the terrible choice that she made,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement.
