New York's attorney general is asking Charter Communications to fix the service problems of the state's Time Warner Cable subscribers following its recent acquisition of the broadband internet provider.
In a letter, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says his office's investigation has shown Time Warner's actual internet speeds often didn't match those promised, and that it failed to keep up with customer demand, leading to congestion and lost data.
He says the problems have been particularly bad at prime time when many customers connect.
Stamford, Connecticut-based Charter says it has made significant investments in its infrastructure and will continue to do that as it integrates Time Warner, bringing enhancements like broadband speeds up to 60 megabits per second.
