Authorities are investigating the death of a New Jersey toddler Sunday night as a homicide, and the girl's mother has been arrested in the investigation, prosecutors say.
Emergency responders were called to a Westfield Avenue home in Elizabeth at around 8 p.m. Sunday and found 2-year-old Dayanna Orozco dead, said Union County prosecutor Grace H. Park.
The girl's mother, 30-year-old Raquel Ramirez, was arrested on a charge of third-degree aggravated assault in connection with injuries found on the girl.
Bail for Ramirez was set at $50,000. Prosecutors say police investigation is continuing, and it's possible Ramirez could face additional charges.
Attorney information for Ramirez wasn't immediately available.
