Fifty-seven families displaced by Sandy still living on a former Army installation near the New Jersey shore or in government-supplied mobile homes will be able to stay for the summer, but they'll have to start paying rent.
Housing on Fort Monmouth was converted for civilian use after the storm hit in 2012 and paid for by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
FEMA planned to shut down the homes on April 30.
The federal government changed its plans and will now allow the residents to stay until Aug. 31. But they'll have to pay rent starting May 1.
U.S. Rep. Christopher Smith, a Republican who represents the area, tells the Asbury Park Press he wants the government to reconsider the rent requirement.
