Psychic Arrested for Allegedly Cheating Clients of More Than $331,000

The woman told victims she would return their money after "cleansing" it through prayer, prosecutors say

Authorities in New Jersey are accusing a psychic who now lives on Long Island of fleecing five people of more than $331,000.

Paula Lee is being held on $75,000 bail, charged with theft by deception, failure to pay taxes and other charges.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi says his office launched an investigation in 2008 after a person claimed she went to the 36-year-old's home in Randolph for advice. The person told authorities Lee received $76,000 that was supposed to be returned after it was cleansed through prayer.

The prosecutor says investigators spoke to another person in 2010 who claimed the psychic had received $160,000 to "cleanse."

Three others also came forward.

Lee was arrested Wednesday at her Hewlett, N.Y., business, known as "Psychic Readings by Anna," which is also her residence.

It's not known if she has a lawyer.
