2 New Jersey Police Officers Indicted on Misconduct, Theft Charges

A pair of ranking Plainfield police officers have been indicted on charges of stealing more than $11,000 by filing fraudulent timesheets for overtime and extra-duty shifts.

Lt. James Abney and Sgt. Leslie Knight are charged with official misconduct, conspiracy, theft by deception and falsifying government records.

Union County prosecutors say the officers billed the city for overtime and extra-duty shifts in 2012 and 2013. They're also accused of signing off on each other's timesheets.

The pair are facing initial court appearances this week.
