New Jersey Man Critical after Hit-and-Run

A New Jersey man was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday morning after being struck by an SUV that jumped a curb and then drove away, authorities said.

Stanley Mis, 65, was walking along a bridge that passes over Routes 1 and 9 in the Lincoln Park area of Jersey City when he was hit by a dark green GMC Envoy that had swerved onto the sidewalk, said a Hudson County Sheriff's Office spokesman. The driver sped away.

During a search for the vehicle, an officer spotted the vehicle parked on Belmont Avenue with damage to the windshield and passenger side.

Mis, a Jersey City resident, was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he was said to be in "very critical condition," said Sheriff Frank Schillari.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the sheriff's office.
