NJ Day Care Cited, Worker Charged With Harming Baby

State and city inspectors have cited a Jersey City day care center for code violations days after a center employee was charged with breaking the leg of a 4-month-old boy she was supposed to be caring for.
 
The Jersey Journal reports that The Academy of Learning has been cited for numerous health and fire-related violations. Inspectors have also reduced the legal occupancy of the daycare from 23 to 15.
 
A message left for Academy officials on Saturday was not immediately returned.
 
Authorities have charged 19-year-old Heather McDonald of Jersey City with aggravated assault, child abuse and endangerment.
 
Prosecutors allege McDonald broke the baby's tibia with her hand on Aug. 6.
 
She has been released on bail. A message left for her attorney on Saturday was not immediately returned.
