NYU to Offer a Master's in Game Design

The 2-year program will examine games across a variety of media

Those hours spent playing video games could pay off. New York University is offering a master's degree in game design as an art form.

The university announced Wednesday that its Game Center will offer a Master of Fine Arts degree starting in fall 2012.

NYU says the curriculum will include game design, game programming, visual design for games and game criticism. The two-year program will examine games across a variety of media including consoles, PCs, smartphones and social networks.

NYU is the largest private university in the United States with more than 50,000 students enrolled in graduate, undergraduate and noncredit programs. Its main campus is in New York's Greenwich Village neighborhood.
