The New York Times said it mistakenly sent an email meant for a "small number of subscribers" to its "vast" distribution list Wednesday.
The email informs recipients that their subscriptions are about to be canceled, and offers a 50 percent off deal.
The newspaper initially said the email was spam and that it did not send the message.
Later Wednesday, the paper said it regrets the error email and the initial claim that it was spam.
