NYPD Veteran Killed in Parkway Accident

Authorities say Esther Sanzo, 37, hit a guardrail and was ejected from her SUV

Authorities say an NYPD officer was killed in a one-vehicle accident on the Palisades Interstate Parkway.

An NYPD spokesman says Esther Sanzo was pronounced dead following the Sunday morning accident.

State Police say it occurred at 12:45 a.m. on the southbound side of the parkway in the Town of Clarkstown.

They say the 37-year-old victim was driving a 2008 Ford SUV near exit 8 when she struck a guardrail in the center median and was ejected from the vehicle.

The SUV continued for a short distance before coming to a stop after striking the Route 59 overpass.

The NYPD says Sanzo joined the force in 1997 and was assigned to the Bronx.

State police ask anyone with information about the accident to call 845-364-0200.
