Police Flier Times Square About Costumed Characters

In the wake of mounting controversy over costumed characters in Times Square the NYPD said it had embarked upon an educational campaign aimed at tourists.

The campaign, which involved the fliers shown above, is being done in conjunction with the Times Square Alliance and is meant to educate the public that tipping the characters is optional.

The controversy over the characters gained momentum when a man dressed as Spider-Man allegedly demanded more money from a tourist who had posed with him before growing belligerent with a police officer and then punching the cop.
