NYPD Sergeant Assigned to Mayor's Detail Suspended for Marijuana Use: Official

An NYPD sergeant working on Mayor de Blasio's security detail has been suspended after testing positive for marijuana, a police official confirmed.

The sergeant failed a random drug test several days ago, The Daily News first reported. An NYPD spokesman confirmed to NBC 4 she was suspended over the weekend.

The sergeant, who has no prior disciplinary history, joined the NYPD in 2002, according to the newspaper.

The mayor's office had no comment and referred questions to the NYPD, which oversees the mayor's security detail.
