Fake Cop Asked for Donations for Officers' Sick Kids: NYPD

The NYPD is looking for the man it says posed as an officer and asked at least three businesses to make donations for sick children of cops.

The alleged fake cop, identified as 43-Richard Gomez, went into three businesses in April and referred to himself as “Sgt. Russo” before soliciting donations for charity, according to the NYPD.

Police say the man tried to get donations from a bagel store in Brooklyn and two restaurants in the Bronx.

It’s not clear how Gomez was linked to the impersonations.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
