NYPD Officer Charged in Attack on MTA Worker in Bronx

An NYPD officer faces assault, harassment and misconduct charges in connection with last month's attack on an MTA employee on a Bronx subway platform, authorities said.

The 28-year-old transit worker told investigators that she was attacked at about 2:30 a.m. Dec. 23 by officer Mirjan Lolja on the D train platform at the East Tremont Station. Lolja allegedly jumped on her back and choked her, causing her to fall to the ground.

The officer, who was off duty at the time of the attack, allegedly pulled the worker's hair before fleeing. Surveillance video captured him leaving the station, authorities said.

The victim, who was wearing her MTA uniform and on duty at the time, was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries to her head, neck and back.

Lolja turned himself to police about a week after the attack. He was suspended from the force pending an investigation by the NYPD's Internal Affairs unit, police said.

Information on his attorney wasn't immediately available.
