The NYPD has placed four detectives on desk duty while officials investigate whether they were drinking on the job at a Manhattan restaurant.
The New York Times reports that the incident took place Feb. 16 at a steakhouse in Manhattan's Washington Heights section.
Police internal affairs officers began looking into the matter after a waitress reported that she been groped by one of the owners of the restaurant after falling asleep on the job, and recalled that an officer had been present prior to the alleged assault.
A lawyer for the detectives tells the newspaper that he didn't believe the waitress had accused the detectives of "inappropriate sexual conduct," but confirmed that their conduct was being reviewed.
A lawyer for the restaurant says its owners didn't assault the woman.
