NYPD Chopper Forced to Make Emergency Landing

After being rushed to the emergency room in an urgent and colorful motorcade in Sunset Park, NYPD officers were brought in one-by-one at Lutheran Medical Center Wednesday night after a bumpy ride in a police chopper.

It was a frightening experience aboard the helicopter when their trip in the air took an unexpected turn near Floyd Bennett Airfield.

NYPD Police commissioner Ray Kelly told reporters investigators are now depending on the NTSB to find out what caused the pilots of the chopper to make an emergency water landing in Jamaica Bay just after 3:30 in the afternoon.

The chopper, carrying a total of six - two of them scuba divers - were on a routine security patrol.

Flotation devices were deployed to ensure a soft landing; still, some of the crew walked away with minor injuries.

A good ending to what could have been a disaster.
