    Police are searching for a thief who was caught on surveillance video snatching a woman's cell phone out of her hands on the Lower East Side the night of Monday, Aug. 19. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS. (Published Tuesday, Aug 27, 2013)

    Police are looking for the thief who was captured on surveillance video snatching a cell phone out of a woman's hands on a Lower East Side street last week.  

    Surveillance video captured the brazen robber following the 34-year-old victim and her friend on Essex Street at shortly after 9 p.m. on  Aug. 19. He suddenly rushes up to snatch the cell phone out of her hand, then runs away on Broome Street, according to police.

    The victim is seen briefly attempting to chase after the robber.
