NY Woman Killed in 40-Foot Plunge from Waterfall

A New York City woman hiking in the Poconos area died after falling 40 feet from a waterfall.

Authorities say 31-year-old New York resident Perla Cabral was hiking with someone else when she fell from the Glen Onoko Falls in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Gorge State Park around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Carbon County Coroner Bruce Nalesnik says she was initially responsive when emergency workers arrived, but died as they were taking her out of the park.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website, Lehigh Gorge State Park is characterized as "a deep, steep-walled gorge carved by a river, thick vegetation, rock outcroppings and waterfalls."
