Older Subways Could Get Digital Upgrade

The city's older subway trains that do not have automated announcements and digital displays may be getting an upgrade.

The New York Times reports that New York City Transit is considering updating the B, D, and Nos. 1, 3 and 7 lines.

Several other lines have already been upgraded in recent years. The sleek automated trains first arrived in the fleet about 10 years ago.

One N train rider told the Times that the digital trains are "more George Orwell."

"But as long as it works, that's the bottom line," said Joel Leyden.
