NYC Schools Deputy Superintendent Arrested in Alleged Endangerment, Sexual Contact of 14-Year-Old Boy

A New York City schools administrator has been arrested for allegedly endangering and inappropriately touching a 14-year-old boy, officials said.

John DiFiore, a 53-year-old deputy superintendent assigned to the Board of Education headquarters, was charged Tuesday with three counts each of acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 and of sexual contact with an individual.

In an interview with investigators, DiFiore allegedly admitted that the victim, a student at Clinton Junior High School, was in his Chelsea home to get marijuana -- but did not admit to sexual contact, according to sources.

It's not clear how the two met.

The Department of Education said in a statement: "While this alleged behavior is not school-related, it is deeply disturbing and reprehensible. Mr. DiFiore will not be in contact with any students."

DiFiore has been removed from his position and is being reassigned to a position where "he will have absolutely no contact with students pending the resolution of this case," the DOE said.

DiFiore previous worked at K078 from 1987 to 2003, including as principal from 1999 to 2003, according to officials.

He began working in the central offices in 2003, including the last four years as assistant to the superintendent at the Office of Safety and Youth Development, officials said. DiFiore supported administrative work and curriculum development in the office.

Attorney information for DiFiore wasn't immediately available.
