Summer Officially Arrives, Showers and Thunderstorms Possible

Father's Day delivered a bit of sunshine to the area, but as the day wore on a cold front approached and caused evening showers and the possibility of thunderstorms.

A flood advisory was in effect for parts of New York City, northeast New Jersey and portions of the Hudson Valley, Storm Team 4 said.

Strong gusts of wind were reported in New York City during Sunday evening. Officials warned residents to be alert to possible flying debris as gusts exceeded 40 mph at times.

Summer officially arrived at 12:38 p.m. Sunday with the summer solstice, the longest day of daylight.

It's been humid across the state, thanks to Tropical Storm Bill, which also dumped rain in the region as it moved through the Northeast.

Monday will be dry. The next chance for thunderstorms and rain is on Tuesday afternoon.

But temperatures for the beginning of the week are expected to run about five to 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. Expect highs in the low 90s in the New York metro area and in the mid-80s in the coastal areas.
