Midtown's Citicorp Center Designated as a Landmark

The Landmarks Preservation Commission has voted to landmark the former Citicorp Center, which includes one of the most recognizable skyscrapers in New York City.

The Citicorp Center was completed in 1978 and contains three interlocking buildings. Most notable is the 59-story tower with its slanted top. It also includes a 6-story retail and office structure and Saint Peter's Church.

Boston Properties acquired the Citicorp Center in 2001 and renamed it 601 Lexington Avenue.

The commission said Tuesday's designation brings the total number of individual landmarks in the East Midtown area to 50.
