De Blasio Move to Gracie Mansion Costs $145,000

It's costing nearly $145,000 to move Mayor de Blasio and his family into the mayoral mansion and to outfit it with new furniture.

The New York Times reports that the move from Brooklyn to Gracie Mansion on the Upper East Side cost nearly $80,000.

West Elm donated $65,000 worth of furniture for the use of de Blasio and his family.

The Times says much of the $80,000 was spent on preparing the mansion for its first full-time residents since 2001.

The mayor's predecessor, Michael Bloomberg, used Gracie Mansion for ceremonial events while continuing to live in his own palatial townhouse.

City Hall aides tell the Times that the cost of the move was split among several city agencies and the privately funded Gracie Mansion Conservancy.
