A man sneaked up behind a woman on a darkened Brooklyn street and tried to rape her in a violent attack, surveillance video shows.

The 34-year-old woman was walking down 16th Street in Windsor Terrace just before 4 a.m. Sunday when the man came up from behind her, lifted her dress and pulled at her underwear.

He then knocked her to the ground and hit her numerous times as he tried to sexually assault her, police said. Video shows the woman kicking at her attacker before he runs off down 16th Street.

The woman refused medical attention at the scene, but witnesses said they tried to calm her down after the attack.

A police investigation is ongoing. There have been no reported arrests.

Other surveillance video shows the moments before the attack, when the woman innocently went to buy a bottle of water at a deli before her walk down the street turned into a nightmare.

There have been a number of attempted rapes in and around Prospect Park in recent months. Two men followed and beat a woman as they tried to rape her in Prospect Park South late last month. A day before that, a man grabbed a woman and exposed himself in the park. Weeks earlier, a man tried to rape a woman as she went for a morning run.
