NYC Man Mistakenly Slapped With 643 Summonses

A Brooklyn man has been mistakenly hit with 643 summonses totaling $48,000.

The Sanitation Department issued the tickets to 72-year-old Levy Zelishovsky for illegally posting fliers around Brooklyn advertising a moving company. The insurance salesman has never been involved in the moving business.

He told the New York Post he called the number on the flier. The person who answered said the Brooklyn company went out of business months ago and didn't post the fliers.

The Sanitation Department says it only did a reverse check on the phone number. It now says Zelishovsky hadn't used the number since 2006. He says it was never his number.

The department says it will recommend the summonses be voided.
