One of the two New York City-based siblings who died in last Tuesday's terror attacks in Brussels was married to the daughter of a former U.S. ambassador, it was revealed Monday.
Alexander Pinczowski was married to Cameron Cain, daughter of Jim Cain, the former U.S. ambassador to Denmark, Ambassador Cain said in an interview with Savannah Guthrie on NBC's "Today" Monday morning. Cain did not know until Tuesday that Pinczowski and his daughter had indeed been married.
"The bright spot of the week was that Cameron told us Tuesday night, as she was huddled with us in her apartment in New York, that, in fact, two years ago she and Alex...had gotten married actually in New York," he said.
Thirty-five people were killed in twin bombings at the airport and in another blast at a subway station. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Alexander Pinczowski had traveled to Brussels airport on Tuesday and was about to check in for a flight back to New York with his sister, Sascha, around the time the two blasts went off, officials said.
Relatives told a Dutch newspaper that the Dutch siblings called them around the time of the attack and that they heard a blast and shattering glass before the line went dead. They said they have been unable to reach the siblings since then.
Pinczowski had traveled to Holland to work on a craft-related business that he and Cameron were going to start together, Cain told NBC News.
The couple met six years ago while taking summer courses in Durham, North Carolina, Cain said.

He called Alexander "intimidatingly smart, a brilliant young man."
Sascha Pinczowski, 26, was a 2015 graduate of Marymount Manhattan College in New York with a degree in business. She spent last summer as an intern at a catering company, Shiraz Events.
