A New York City jury is set to hear closing arguments at the trial of an aging gangster accused in a legendary $6 million heist that was retold in the Mafia movie "Goodfellas."
Lawyers are to give their summations on Friday morning in the federal case against Vincent Asaro. The 80-year-old defendant has pleaded not guilty to racketeering charges.
Asaro was arrested in 2014 after his crime family cousin came forward to tell authorities that the defendant helped plan a 1978 robbery of a cargo terminal at Kennedy Airport. At the time it was called one of the biggest heists in U.S. history.
The cousin wore a wire to make recordings played at the trial. The defense has accused the witness of framing Asaro to win leniency.
