Fire Rips Through 3-Story Queens Apartment Building, Quickly Spreads

A fire ripped through a three-story building in Queens and spread to adjacent buildings, injuring nine firefighters, fire officials say. 

The blaze broke out around 10 p.m. Thursday at 18-11 College Point Boulevard in College Point.

The building where it began has businesses on the ground level and apartments above. Several of the business, including a 99 cent shop, were destroyed. 

People gathered on the street to watch as smoke and flames lit up the night sky.

The FDNY said that nine firefighters suffered minor injuries in the blaze. No civilians were hurt. 

The fire was under control by 1:45 a.m. with a few hot spots burning here and there. 

It's unclear what sparked the fire.
