14 Injured, 2 Critically, in Brooklyn Apartment Building Fire

Neighbors said they could hear people screaming as the fire raged

Fourteen people were injured, two of them critically, in an apartment fire in Brooklyn Thursday night, according to officials.

The fire, which authorities deemed electrical and accidental in nature, broke out shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday on the third floor of a seven-story building on East 26th Street in Flatbush.

Fire officials say two people were taken to Kings County Hospital in critical condition. Twelve other people were treated for minor injuries.

There were reports of people jumping out of windows.

"I heard screams from downstairs," neighbor Diana Ramos said. "I heard a lot of screams. I feel bad for the families I really do."

The blaze was brought under control in less than an hour.

Many of the windows on the third floor were boarded up Friday morning.
