Man Accused of Stealing $90K After Being Recognized by Parole Officer

A 54-year-old man who had been recently released from prison has been accused of stealing $90,000 from an unlocked safe at a Westchester service station last week after his parole officer recognized him as the dapperly dressed man seen on surveillance video from the theft, authorities say.

Robert Berry, of Mount Vernon, was arrested as he left his home late Tuesday night. Police used a search warrant to search his house.

Police have been searching for a man in dress clothes who on March 18 went into the USA Service Pro Auto Shop on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains and stole the cash.

A man can be seen in video surveillance footage grabbing the money from an open safe when no one is looking.

He had been recently released on parole for a robbery conviction, authorities say, and was identified as the suspect in the theft by his own parole officer.

Berry was arraigned and held without bail Wednesday on grand larceny charges.

Attorney information for the man wasn't immediately available.
