The $156 billion state budget deal set for a vote on Friday includes $55 billion in transportation investments statewide, including billions for MTA projects like the long-awaited Second Avenue subway.
The $55 billion transportation plan is the largest ever approved in the state.
State DOT programs will get $27.14 billion of the $55 billion. The MTA will get $27.98 billion.
MTA Chairman Thomas Prendergast called the budget agreement a “monumental win for the people of New York” and said that it will help the agency expand and enhance its transportation system.
Prendergast said that the budget includes a commitment to the second phase of the Second Avenue subway into the Upper East Side and East Harlem.
In all, the MTA will get $1.5 billion from the state for the Second Avenue subway extension. The budget authorizes a record $8.3 billion of state support for the plan.
Most of the rest of the $27 billion will go to the city buses, subways, LIRR and Metro-North.

The DOT will use the money to improve highways, bridges, rail and aviation infrastructure, as well as non-MTA transit. It will also launch three new initiatives: BRIDGE NY, PAVE NY and the Extreme Weather Infrastructure Hardening Program.
Billions more will go to the New York State Thruway, allowing for the freezing of tolls on the system until at least the 2020s.
