NY Driver Convicted in Fatal Drag Race Arrested on Weapons Charges

Cory Gloe was sentenced to six months in jail and five years of probation after the 2014 street race crash

A Long Island man who received six months in jail and five years on probation for his role in a drag racing crash that killed five teenagers is facing weapons and endangerment charges.

Cory Gloe was arrested late Wednesday in Farmingdale after allegedly firing a 12-gauge shotgun in the air in his backyard. No one was injured, but authorities said they recovered several shotgun shells from the scene.

Bail was set at $100,000. Newsday reported that his attorney said it is not certain who fired the shotgun.

Gloe was in May sentenced for the 2014 street race crash. He was granted youthful offender status because he was 17 at the time.

The judge said justice would not be served by giving him prison time.

Prosecutors objected and noted he had posted an online epithet to police after pleading guilty to manslaughter. In the post, he also claimed "I'll be in and out faster than you can spin a doubt."

Sandra Lonnborg, whose daughter Carly was among the 5 people killed in the crash, called Gloe's lattest alleged misconduct is a "hard pill to swallow."

He was going to be a role model for other youth," she said. "If this is the role model he chooses to be, let him do it behind bars where he belongs."
