Man Charged After Hitting, Seriously Injuring Pedestrian in New Jersey; Driver Charged

A 37-year-old man was seriously injured after he was struck by an SUV on a New Jersey roadway Friday night, police said.

Shaun Nichols was on Route 37 near Douglas Street in Toms River when he was hit by a 2005 Chrysler driven by Jesus Leonor Hernandez, 27, who was traveling eastbound. The accident happened near the Aqua Blu Restaurant.

Nichols was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center with serious injuries. His condition was unknown Saturday.

Hernandez was charged with operating a motor vehicle while having a revoked driver's license. He could face other charges in the crash, police said.
