NY man allegedly admits to posing as immigration attorney.

A man has admitted posing as a New York immigration lawyer and bilking thousands of dollars from people who sought his help getting visas and work and residency papers.

The Manhattan District Attorney's office says Victor Espinal pleaded guilty Thursday to scheming to defraud, grand larceny and other charges. The 61-year-old is expected to get a six-month jail term and pay $10,000 in restitution.

His lawyer didn't immediately return a call Thursday evening.

Prosecutors say Espinal held himself out as an attorney for more than 15 years but never had a law license in the United States.

Prosecutors say clients paid up to $3,000 each for services Espinal often never provided. His clients mainly came from the Caribbean and Central America.
