Gunman Shoots Man, 2 Dogs, Then Torches House: Police

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

Suffolk County police are looking for the gunman they say shot a man, killed one of his two dogs and wounded the other before setting the man's house on fire.

Police said a man entered the Yaphank home Tuesday evening, shot the 27-year-old man and his two dogs and then torched the home.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His name was not immediately released.

One dog died and the other was taken to an animal clinic, where it is recovering.

Firefighters from Yaphank and surrounding communities put out the blaze.

The suspect fled the scene. It's unclear what led to the shooting.

Police said the medical examiner will remove the bullet from the dead dog as part of the investigation.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
