Woman Crossing Road Hit and Killed by SUV on Long Island

A woman was killed Sunday night after she was hit by an SUV as she crossed a Long Island roadway, according to police.

Elzire Presume, 48, was crossing Sunrise Highway at Louden Street in Massapequa when she was struck by a Toyota Highlander around 8 p.m. Firefighters pronounced her dead at the scene minutes later.

The 22-year-old driver stayed at the site of the crash and took a preliminary breath test, which came back negative. Brake and safety inspections of his vehicle showed that the car was in working order.

Police said there was no reason to charge the driver with a criminal offense.
