NY Sens. Espada, Kruger Top List of Biggest Spenders

A new report shows two indicted New York state senators topped the list of spending by lawmakers over the course of a half year.

The Empire Center for New York State Policy report covers how the Legislature spent $105 million on themselves and to run their offices from last October through March, the end of the state fiscal year.

Former Sen. Pedro Espada Jr. is listed as spending more than $790,000. He faces a federal trial this fall charges he misused government grants secured by his Bronx health care clinic.

Sen. Carl Kruger of Brooklyn spent more than $650,000. He's accused in a bribery case.

The data released Tuesday comes from expense reports lawmakers must file. They are compiled on the Empire Center's public transparency website, SeeThroughNY.net.
