Signal Problems Cause LIRR Delays, Service Suspensions

Long Island Rail Road commuters were experiencing delays and service suspensions during the Monday evening rush because of a signal problem in one of the East River tunnels.

Westbound service was suspended between Penn Station and Jamaica Station shortly before 5 p.m. due to the signal problems. Eastbound service was experiencing delays of about 15 minutes.

Amtrak inspectors were at the scene working to fix the signal problems, the MTA said, and it appeared disruptions were starting to ease after 7 p.m.

At the height of the evening rush, track work was also affecting NJ Transit service at Penn Station and 45-minute delays were reported.

The MTA said tickets were being cross-honored at the E train at Sutphin/Archer, Union Turnpike and 71st Avenue, at the 2/3 trains at Atlantic Avenue and 34th Street and at the 7 train at 61st Street Woodside.

Westbound customers could transfer at Jamaica for service to Atlantic Terminal and 2/3 service into Manhattan from there.
