Gay Marriage License Forms Ready

New York is sending new marriage license forms to local governments that will allow gay marriages to begin as early as July 24.

The forms were developed after the June 24 legalization of gay marriage in New York.

The state has posted basic information on the process on its health department website.

Under the law, there's a 24-hour waiting period for most couples between obtaining a license and getting married. July 24 is a Sunday when most municipal offices would normally be closed, but some plan to open and issue licenses, including New York City.

Many of the marriages will likely be delayed until July 26 because of office hours and the waiting period, which isn't required for couples already married legally in other states.
