Mother of Former New Jersey Governor Dies in Illinois

Nancy Corzine, a former schoolteacher, died at home in Oak Park at the age of 95

Nancy Corzine, the mother of former New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, died Tuesday at her home in Oak Park, Illinois.

The retired schoolteacher was 95.

Nancy Corzine held a Bible for her son, a former U.S. senator and chairman of Goldman Sachs, when he was sworn in as New Jersey governor in 2006. He later returned to finance and became chief executive of now-failed securities firm MF Global.

Corzine, a Democrat, once recalled how his mother would call him frequently while he was governor to give him grief. He said his mother had never bothered to shed her Republican Party affiliation even though she was voting for Democrats, including Barack Obama.
