New Jersey Transit says a longtime agency worker was killed in an accident at the Meadows Maintenance Complex in Kearny.

Agency spokeswoman Nancy Snyder tells The Jersey Journal that Alijandro Baroni, a 44-year-old Bayonne resident, died from head injuries he sustained in an accident involving track equipment. He had been a track man with NJ Transit for 11 years.

Officials say the accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, but further details were not disclosed. Baroni was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

The accident is under investigation by NJ Transit police and the Federal Railroad Administration.
