New Jersey Transit said trains are operating on or close to schedule after warning customers about potential residual backups throughout Thursday night's rush hour following an earlier Amtrak switch problem.
The agency had said in a red-bannered warning on its website that there could be overcrowding issues at New York Penn Station as a result, but issues appeared contained at the start of the evening rush hour.
Originally NJT said there could be 45-minute delays through the evening rush, but it lowered that forecast to "residual delays" later in the afternoon.
PATH trains are not cross-honoring rail tickets, NJT also said in a tweet.
The delays started just before 10 a.m. and worsened throughout the day. The transit agency sent an alert around 3:30 p.m. that the switch problem had been fixed but that delays would persist.
It was the second time in less than 10 days that infrastructure problems created significant delays for NJT during rush hour.
