8 Hurt When Bus, Tractor-Trailers Collide on New Jersey Turnpike: Police

Eight people were hurt, one of them seriously, when an NJ Transit bus was involved in an accident with three tractor-trailers on the New Jersey Turnpike Wednesday morning, transit officials and law enforcement authorities say.

State police say that the vehicles crashed in the turnpike’s northbound lanes near mile marker 98 in Linden at about 7:45 a.m.

The seriously hurt person had to be extricated from the bus, authorities said. All of the injured patients were taken to a hospital in Newark.

Three lanes on the highway were closed at one point while authorities responded and traffic backed up for several exits. Drivers were being advised to seek alternate routes, and delays were reported for commuter buses in the area throughout the morning.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

NJ Transit confirmed the details of the crash but had no other immediate comment.
