NJ Transit, Lincoln Tunnel Delays for Evening Commute

The commute is a mess.

After a messy evening commute for New Jersey residents, traffic delays have been reduced significantly.

An accident in the center tube of Lincoln Tunnel caused backups of about 45 minutes at the height of the evening rush hour, but delays were down to about 10 to 15 minutes as of 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, NJ Transit says the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Raritan Valley Lines are delayed by 10 to 15 minutes after being affected by signal problems.

Trains were delayed 20 to 30 minutes in both directions. NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. says travelers should allow extra time to get their final destination.

Amtrak says its trains are experiencing 10- to 20-minute delays but that those could lengthen.

Amtrak crews have been working on the problem since late morning.
